Drifter Clay is a collection of functional pottery and handmade art inspired by rivers, mountains, wild places, and the rituals that ground us.
Each mug, bowl, planter, and vessel is made by hand in my mountain studio overlooking the French Broad River, where creativity unfolds somewhere between raising two young boys, tending animals, and watching the seasons move across the landscape.
My work lives at the intersection of earth, fire, and water.
For the Wild at Heart
I've never been interested in making work that behaves.
The natural world certainly doesn't.
Rivers carve their own paths. Trees grow toward the light. Mountains refuse to be hurried. Clay has a way of teaching the same lesson.
My work is inspired by that spirit of wildness, not chaos, but authenticity. The kind that emerges when we stop trying to force everything into neat little boxes and allow things to become what they're meant to be.
I want my work to feel expressive, a little unexpected, and deeply alive. Pieces that celebrate curiosity over perfection, character over uniformity, and beauty that isn't afraid to show its fingerprints.
Because the things we love most are rarely flawless.
They're simply real.
Made to be Lived with
No two pieces are exactly alike, and that's entirely intentional.
Every curve, glaze variation, fingerprint, and unexpected detail tells part of the story. Not a story of perfection, but of process. Of transformation. Of a material becoming something it wasn't before.
If a piece of mine finds its way into your home, I hope it becomes part of your daily rhythm—the mug you reach for without thinking, the bowl that's somehow always in use, the vase that holds flowers picked on an ordinary Tuesday.
The most meaningful objects aren't saved for special occasions.
They become part of the life happening right in front of us.
